Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang challenged people warning that AI could end humanity, questioning their motives in a CBS News interview. "I believe the claims of the end of the world, stirring fear across America, and doing it by the people who are doing it make no sense to me," Huang said. "So they must be doing it for ulterior reasons."
Huang offered possible explanations without confirming any, saying "maybe it's political, maybe it's otherwise, maybe it's just attention grabbing," and added, "I don't know what the reason is for it." On a specific catastrophe prediction, he said, "2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that's going to be the end of the world."
OpenAI and Anthropic leaders, along with Elon Musk, have backed calls to slow advanced AI development over safety concerns, according to Financial Times. Google Brain cofounder Andrew Ng has also pushed back on AI extinction warnings, reportedly calling them "much more science fiction than science."
Separately, September research from fintech firm Saturn tested 18 AI models against 121 financial questions repeated five times; across more than 10,000 responses, 57% failed the firm's criteria, rising to 88% on harder questions, according to Financial Reporter.
Nvidia shares have returned 20% year-to-date and trade at 23.57 times forward non-GAAP earnings, roughly 45% below its five-year average, according to Seeking Alpha data. Analysts expect EPS of $9.31 for the fiscal year ending January 2027, rising to $15.68 the following year.
