TSMC nearly doubles equipment plans as AI orders outrun capacity
TSMC $TSM now expects to purchase nearly twice as much chipmaking equipment as it projected in December as AI demand continues pulling capacity expansion forward.
The company is currently building and outfitting roughly 20 fabs at once, compared with a normal pace of around five, yet still says it cannot fully meet customer demand.
$NVDA, $AMD and $AVGO are reportedly continuing to raise orders faster than TSMC can add supply.
The imbalance highlights how aggressively the semiconductor supply chain is being pushed by the current AI infrastructure cycle.
