Global Central Banks Add 23 Tonnes of Gold in July, Marking Fourth Consecutive Monthly Purchase
Global central banks purchased a net 23 tonnes of gold in July, marking their fourth consecutive month of net buying, according to recent data. The latest purchases follow a 51-tonne acquisition in June, which ranked as the second-largest monthly purchase since November 2024.
Demand in July was led by the People's Bank of China with 20 tonnes, bringing its year-to-date total to 60 tonnes, while Poland added 8 tonnes to lift its 2026 purchases to 90 tonnes. Year-to-date central bank gold acquisitions have reached 130 tonnes, slightly trailing the 160 tonnes purchased during the same period last year.
