US law blocks Fed digital dollar until 2031
The U.S. has reportedly passed a law preventing the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital dollar until 2031.
The restriction came through the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which became law after the 10-day signing window expired without a veto.
The Fed is now described as legally barred from issuing a CBDC or anything substantially similar through December 2030.
Stablecoins such as $USDT and $USDC are reportedly exempt and untouched.
For crypto markets, the bigger signal is that U.S. policy may be moving away from a government-issued digital dollar while leaving private stablecoin rails open.
