President Donald Trump reportedly reversed course on potential U.S. strikes against Yemen's Houthis after previously instructing the Pentagon to prepare for military action, according to The New York Times.
The report says Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had sought U.S. intervention and that military preparations advanced to the point where commanders had approved targets and aircraft were being prepared for an initial wave of strikes.
Trump ultimately decided against launching the operation. The New York Times also reports that members of his inner circle remain skeptical of direct military action against the Houthis.
The decision reduces the immediate risk of a new U.S. strike campaign, although regional security and shipping risks remain elevated.
