McDonald’s Introduces ArchIQ AI System to Cut 50 Labor Hours Per Week and Boost Margins

McDonald’s ($MCD) is rolling out a generative artificial intelligence operating system named ArchIQ as part of its "McDonald’s > NEXT" growth strategy. The system features "Archy," an AI voice assistant capable of taking drive-thru orders in English and Spanish.
According to CFO Ian Borden, the automation suite is projected to eliminate at least 50 labor hours per restaurant weekly by managing tasks like order-taking, inventory tracking, employee scheduling, and order-accuracy verification. The initiative is designed to counter persistent wage and food inflation pressures by improving operating margins and generating an estimated $100,000 in additional annual cash flow per average U.S. location, despite requiring significant upfront technological investments from franchisees.
