UK Government Bond Yields Surge to Multi-Decade Highs

UK government borrowing costs are climbing sharply across the gilt market, with several benchmark yields reportedly reaching levels not seen in decades.
The 10-year gilt yield has risen to 5.527%, its highest level since 2007. The 20-year yield has reached 6.00%, while the 30-year yield stands at 6.047%, both reportedly at their highest levels since 1998.
Elevated gilt yields increase the cost of financing government debt and can transmit pressure into mortgage rates, corporate borrowing and broader financial conditions.
The simultaneous rise across medium- and long-term maturities highlights growing pressure on the UK's bond market and fiscal outlook.
