Bezos-Led Group Buys 30% of Liverpool at Record $7 Billion Valuation

Fenway Sports Group has agreed to sell a roughly 30% minority stake in Liverpool Football Club to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led by Amit Bhatia with backing from the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports, and the Saverin family office, according to a club statement. FSG retains majority ownership and operational control, and the statement did not disclose a price.
Jeff Bezos is the lead investor in the K5 Sports fund and his first personal sports investment, though he will not take a board seat, according to CNBC. The deal reportedly values the stake at just over $7 billion, a record for a soccer club investment, topping the roughly $5.8 billion enterprise value implied by Jim Ratcliffe's 2024 Manchester United stake, per Sportico. Forbes valued Liverpool at $6.2 billion in its 2026 rankings, fourth among all soccer clubs.
Notably, the investment group holds an option to become Liverpool's majority shareholder at a valuation near $8 billion within the next 12 months, CNBC reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. FSG originally bought Liverpool in 2010 for about £300 million, or roughly $476 million at the time, according to Sportico.
The deal comes after Liverpool finished fifth in the 2025/26 Premier League season and lost Mohamed Salah. Amazon (AMZN) shareholders are not directly affected, as the investment is being made through Bezos's personal capital via a private fund.
