Xi heads to Washington for talks with Trump on AI, trade and tariffs

Chinese President Xi Jinping has left Beijing for talks with President Trump in Washington, marking his first state visit to the U.S. capital since 2015.
AI, trade and national security are expected to feature prominently. The U.S. has reportedly proposed a mechanism for both countries to alert each other about AI incidents that could threaten national security, although expectations for a major AI agreement remain limited.
Markets are also watching whether the two sides extend the trade truce due to expire November 10 and make progress on tariffs, rare-earth exports, U.S. agricultural purchases and Boeing aircraft. Taiwan and U.S. arms sales are also expected to feature in the broader discussions.
