$GFS and RAAAM Tape Out New GCRAM Memory Tech to Cut SRAM Area and Power

GlobalFoundries ($GFS) and RAAAM Memory Technologies have successfully taped out a new Gain-Cell RAM (GCRAM) test chip on GlobalFoundries' FDX platform. The co-designed memory technology achieves a 40% reduction in memory area and up to a 60% decrease in power consumption compared to traditional SRAM.
Targeting edge AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and automotive applications, the solution is designed to boost on-chip memory capacity while minimizing off-chip data movement. NXP Semiconductors ($NXPI) is currently evaluating the technology, with customer design access expected to open in early 2027.
