$GOOGL, MN8 Energy, and $EOSE Partner on $350 Million Solar and Storage Project in West Virginia
Google ($GOOGL), MN8 Energy, and Eos Energy Enterprises ($EOSE) are collaborating on a $350 million solar and energy storage initiative in West Virginia to supply power to Google’s regional data centers. Built on a reclaimed coal mine, the facility—named the Mammoth Solar project—will represent the state's first commercial deployment of long-duration energy storage.
The planned facility will include:
• 86 MW of utility-scale solar capacity
• 70 MW / 280 MWh of lithium-ion battery storage
• 10 MW / 100 MWh of long-duration zinc-based energy storage powered by Eos' Z3 technology
Under the agreement, Google will purchase the project’s power, capacity, and clean-energy attributes to support operations, including its planned West Virginia data center. The initiative also marks Google's first integration of Eos’ Z3 energy storage systems.
The development is slated for a phased rollout: solar operations are scheduled to begin in 2028, followed by the lithium-ion battery system in 2029, and the Eos long-duration storage installation in 2030.
