Institutions buy $4.1B of U.S. equities as retail keeps selling

Institutional investors purchased a net $4.1 billion of U.S. equities in the week ending September 18, marking their third weekly purchase in the past four weeks.
The four-week average of institutional buying has risen to $2.9 billion per week. Hedge funds also bought a net $1.2 billion last week, lifting their four-week average to $1.6 billion.
Retail investors moved in the opposite direction, selling a net $2.2 billion for an eighth consecutive week. Retail selling has averaged $1.9 billion per week over the past four weeks, highlighting a notable divergence in positioning between institutional and retail investors.
