President Donald Trump has demanded that Jerome Powell resign from the Federal Reserve Board after an Inspector General report detailed significant project management deficiencies regarding the Fed’s headquarters renovation.
The investigation found that the project's approved budget climbed to $2.46 billion—roughly $1 billion above original estimates—largely driven by design changes, inflation, and a failure to secure a guaranteed maximum price with construction managers. However, the watchdog concluded there was no administrative or criminal misconduct.
Following the report's release, Trump stated he asked the Department of Justice to review the findings and renewed his call for Powell to step down immediately.
