Households are holding record cash

US households are now holding 8 percent of total assets in cash.
That is the highest cash share in at least 36 years.
This can be read two ways.
One: households are cautious and still worried about the economy.
Two: there is still a large pool of dry powder sitting outside risk assets.
Either way, cash positioning is now a major part of the market setup.
