Solana Set to Cut Transaction Finality by 99% in September Upgrade

Solana is preparing for a major September upgrade that is expected to reduce transaction finality by nearly 99%, cutting confirmation times from 12.8 seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds.
Addressing the upcoming update, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko stated on X that "finality is really only important at the cash register." He explained that market makers typically assume transactions will clear without waiting for finality signals, meaning the speed increase will primarily benefit point-of-sale payments and consumer-facing retail applications.
The technical enhancement arrives as the network's native token trades near $73 amid broader market weakness, following a recent listing on the heavily regulated Japanese crypto exchange BitFlyer earlier this year.
