$AMZN Develops “Fully Automated” Delivery Stations

Amazon is working on Project Tetromino, an early-stage initiative to use artificial intelligence and robotics to automate delivery stations, which serve as the final warehouse stop before packages are dispatched to drivers.
Internal documents reviewed by Business Insider outlined a 2028 pilot program, projecting that the new facility design could process packages at roughly 2.5 times the rate of existing stations. The documents also estimated a required investment of more than $530 million by 2029. However, Amazon stated that these financial figures and the proposed rollout timeline are inaccurate and do not reflect the company's current plans.
The automated system could reportedly incorporate Boxbot technology to handle package storage, sequencing, and vehicle loading. These tasks currently represent some of the most challenging aspects of last-mile logistics to automate.
