30-Year U.S. Treasury Yield Crosses 5% for Longest Streak Since 2006 Amid Surging Rates
The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield has traded above 5.00% for 56 trading days in 2026, marking its longest such streak in any year since 2006. The yield has also maintained this threshold for 41 consecutive sessions.
By comparison, 2007 recorded 50 days above 5%, while 2023 saw only 7 days. The benchmark yield has surged 47 basis points year-to-date to 5.28%, reaching its highest level since 2007.
The 30-year yield has averaged 4.96% so far in 2026, putting it on track for its highest annual average since 2004. If current levels hold through year-end, it will mark the sixth consecutive annual increase, with the yield more than tripling from its 2020 low of approximately 1.50%.
