U.S. Pressures Apple $AAPL to Stop Buying Chinese Memory Chips
The U.S. government is reportedly pressuring Apple $AAPL to stop buying memory chips from Chinese suppliers.
Apple is still evaluating chips from China’s CXMT and YMTC as the AI-driven memory shortage pushes prices sharply higher and tightens global supply.
Apple COO Sabih Khan said the shortage has become severe enough that the company “has to look at all options.”
The situation puts Apple in a difficult position: Washington wants U.S. companies to reduce reliance on Chinese semiconductor suppliers, while surging AI demand is making alternative memory supply increasingly expensive and constrained.
For $AAPL, the outcome could directly affect component costs, supply-chain flexibility and hardware margins.
