The national average stood near $6.20 a week earlier and $5.55 a month ago, highlighting the speed of the recent fuel-price surge.
Because diesel is heavily used across trucking, agriculture and industrial activity, sustained record prices could quickly translate into higher freight and production costs while adding to broader inflationary pressure.
