CoreWeave’s Near-Term Profit Pressure May Be Temporary
$CRWV says earnings are being squeezed by a roughly six-week timing gap between when newly deployed AI infrastructure begins depreciating and when contracted customer revenue starts flowing.
The company has around $30 billion in debt supporting 49 operating data centers and future expansion. In the first quarter, depreciation and interest expenses consumed 81% of revenue .
CEO Michael Intrator expects that burden to decline as more installed capacity comes online and begins generating revenue.
The key point: $CRWV’s financing is supported by long-term contracts that require customers to pay for reserved computing capacity whether they fully use it or not.
The current pressure is largely a timing issue between upfront infrastructure costs and delayed revenue recognition.
