$GOOGL in Talks to Acquire AI Data Startup Mechanize for $1.5 Billion
Google is reportedly discussing a $1.5 billion acquisition of Mechanize, a startup that builds high-quality reinforcement-learning environments for coding agents. The deal would represent one of the largest AI data acquisitions since Scale AI.
Founded roughly one year ago, Mechanize reportedly employs 35–50 people who create complex coding tasks used to train and evaluate AI models. The company was valued at approximately $500 million just three months ago .
Mechanize has become a premium source of coding-training data, with team members from Epoch AI, the organization behind benchmarks including FrontierMath. Bringing the company in-house could give $GOOGL exclusive access to both its datasets and specialized technical talent.
