Nvidia-backed GPU financing draws more than twice the requested demand
GMI Cloud sought approximately $439 million to finance $NVDA GPUs for an AI data center in Taiwan, but around a dozen banks have reportedly already committed about $947 million.
Total demand could ultimately reach roughly $1.26 billion, making the financing one of Asia's first major loans backed by future GPU-compute revenue.
Nvidia will supply the GPUs and has agreed to lease unused compute capacity at a predetermined price for up to six years, effectively providing lenders with a revenue floor. If GMI sells the capacity at higher prices, Nvidia receives 50% of the upside revenue.
The strong demand highlights how AI compute itself is increasingly being treated as financeable infrastructure.
