Meta discusses potential settlement in teen safety trial

Meta and state attorneys general have discussed a possible mid-trial settlement in the federal case accusing Facebook and Instagram of harming young users, according to Bloomberg.
The case involves 29 states seeking financial penalties and mandatory changes to Meta's platforms over alleged consumer-protection violations and data collection involving users under 13.
$META estimates a worst-case trial outcome could expose the company to as much as $1.4 trillion in penalties, although any negotiated settlement would likely be far smaller.
Several state attorneys general have also scheduled press conferences for Wednesday, while Mark Zuckerberg is expected to testify if the trial continues.
