SoftBank Plans Record $6.3B Bond Sale to Fund AI Push
SoftBank is raising another massive round of capital for its AI ambitions.
The company plans to issue ¥1 trillion, or roughly $6.3 billion, of seven-year retail bonds — the largest retail bond offering ever by a Japanese company.
The bonds are expected to carry a coupon between 4.3% and 4.9%.
Proceeds will be used for AI investments and refinancing existing debt.
The raise comes as SoftBank continues committing enormous amounts of capital to OpenAI and broader AI infrastructure.
Masayoshi Son has already committed more than $60 billion across AI investments, while SoftBank has also sold its entire Nvidia stake and increased borrowing against assets such as Arm.
The strategy is becoming increasingly aggressive:
Sell liquid assets.
Raise debt.
Leverage existing holdings.
And redirect the capital into AI.
SoftBank is effectively making one of the largest leveraged bets on the AI boom anywhere in the market.
