Bitcoin's source code is stored in the Arctic World Archive, a vault built to survive for 1,000 years. In 2020, GitHub archived Bitcoin's entire codebase onto 186 reels of archival film and deposited them in a decommissioned coal mine beneath the permafrost in Svalbard, Norway.
The archive holds 21 terabytes of open-source code, including Bitcoin, Linux, and Python.
