$NVTS and $MCHP Unveil Single-Stage 800V-to-6V Architecture for Next-Gen AI Data Center Racks

Navitas Semiconductor ($NVTS) and Microchip Technology ($MCHP) have jointly introduced an 800V DC-to-6V DC power reference design tailored for next-generation, high-density AI data center racks. The platform combines Navitas' GaNFast gallium nitride power semiconductors with Microchip's digital power controllers and hardware security, targeting up to 96% peak conversion efficiency and an industry-leading power density of 2,100 W/in³.
The architecture delivers direct conversion from 800V DC down to 6V DC, effectively collapsing traditional multi-stage power topologies (800V-to-48V/50V intermediate bus followed by 48V-to-core) into a single, compact converter stage. By eliminating intermediate conversion hardware, the design substantially reduces thermal dissipation and copper loss while freeing up valuable rack space for accelerator compute.
Crucially, the partnership aligns directly with the Open Compute Project (OCP) 800V DC standard, granting Navitas an established commercial channel into tier-one hyperscale architectures. As modern GPU clusters surpass 100 kW per rack, high-voltage direct conversion represents a pivotal efficiency threshold for sustaining AI data center scalability.
