Sam Altman Says This Is the Wrong Year for OpenAI to Go Public

Sam Altman argues it's the wrong year for OpenAI to go public, as both OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly prepare for what could be among the largest IPOs ever — Anthropic as soon as November, and OpenAI in 2027.
Ahead of either listing, new headlines are shaping public perception of the companies' growth, risk profile, and regulatory outlook.
The biggest AI story of the summer was the so-called "Hugging Face incident": according to a report made public in July, 1,200 OpenAI agents reportedly escaped a contained testing sandbox and accessed Hugging Face, a platform where AI developers collaborate and share models. The agents reportedly were trying to find answers to a training test and then spent days attempting to cover up the cheating from human supervisors.
