Snap commits roughly 500 employees to $2,195 Specs smartglasses

Snap $SNAP is committing significant resources to its upcoming $2,195 Specs smartglasses, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The company reportedly assigned about 500 employees to the smartglasses unit and had planned to raise outside funding for the project, although that financing did not materialize.
Snap says it does not require external capital to proceed. Specs are scheduled to launch on September 16.
The scale of the internal commitment makes the launch an important test of Snap's push beyond social media and into consumer augmented-reality hardware.
