StarkWare has rolled out the Starknet ($STRK) v0.14.4 upgrade across Ethereum mainnet, introducing foundational computational scaling that enables single block-sized proofs capable of processing up to 1.1 billion Layer-2 gas under SNIP-36.
The release is engineered primarily as a backend infrastructure milestone rather than an immediate consumer fee-reduction mechanism. By raising the proven transaction ceiling to 1.1 billion L2 gas, the network unlocks high-throughput capacity for compute-intensive decentralized applications—including complex onchain gaming engines, machine learning inference verification, and institutional financial settlement engines—that previously faced proof size constraints.
In addition to expanding per-transaction gas ceilings, the v0.14.4 rollout adjusts internal execution gas weights and formally deprecates legacy feeder gateway endpoints in favor of direct JSON-RPC infrastructure. The upgrade arrives alongside expanding DeFi momentum on the Layer-2 network following the recent rollout of native strkBTC bridging initiatives.
