XRP Ledger Foundation Confirms No New XRP Was Created by Patched Ledger Bug
The XRP Ledger Foundation says a recently patched ledger vulnerability did not result in the creation of any additional $XRP, addressing concerns about the integrity of the network's token supply.
According to the foundation, the issue was corrected in XRP Ledger software version 3.4.1. The network's original supply remains limited to 100 billion XRP, with no unauthorized issuance attributed to the vulnerability.
The clarification is significant because an exploit capable of creating unauthorized tokens could undermine confidence in a blockchain's monetary rules, transaction validation and overall security.
While the foundation's statement indicates that no new XRP was generated through the bug, the incident reinforces the importance of timely software updates, independent security reviews and coordinated responses to protocol vulnerabilities.
Network operators should follow official XRPL security guidance and ensure their infrastructure runs a supported, patched software version.
