Huawei pitches Egypt on major AI chip deployment

Huawei has proposed building AI data-center infrastructure for Egypt's military, surveillance and other public-sector workloads, according to Bloomberg.
The proposal includes 1,408 high-end Ascend 950-series chips for an AI training cloud and another 600 Ascend 950 or 910B chips for inference clusters.
The U.S. is reportedly preparing a counteroffer, with the State Department reaching out to Nvidia, AMD and Microsoft about forming an American consortium.
If completed, the project could become the first known export of Huawei's Ascend AI accelerators and give the company a significant foothold in Africa and the Middle East.
