$BTC Nears 4M Turkish Lira as Currency Weakness Drives Crypto Demand
$BTC is now trading near 4 million Turkish lira as the country’s currency continues to lose purchasing power.
Five years ago, one Bitcoin cost roughly 370,000 lira. Today, it trades near 3.95 million lira, more than 10 times higher in local-currency terms.
The move reflects both Bitcoin’s appreciation and the substantial weakening of the Turkish lira.
The lira traded near a record low of roughly 49 per U.S. dollar this week, while inflation remains above 31% despite Turkey’s central bank maintaining a policy rate around 37%.
Persistent inflation and currency depreciation have increasingly pushed Turkish users toward crypto assets and stablecoins as alternative ways to store and transfer value.
That makes Turkey an important example of how crypto adoption can be driven not only by speculation, but also by declining confidence in local purchasing power.
For Turkish investors, $BTC’s rise looks dramatically larger when measured in lira than when measured in U.S. dollars.
