$META Unveils First Petabit-Scale Transatlantic Cable Connecting U.S. and France by 2029

Meta Platforms ($META) has unveiled "Petal," the world's first petabit-scale transoceanic subsea cable connecting the United States and France, slated to enter service in 2029.
The subsea system is engineered to transmit 1 petabit of data per second across transoceanic distances, doubling the capacity of current state-of-the-art cables.
By deploying multi-core fiber technology at scale, the infrastructure will expand AI data transmission capacity without requiring a proportional increase in physical footprint or power consumption.
