Yahoo Finance's Brian Sozzi Warns Bulls: Don't Let the Bull Market Blind You to Early Warning Signs
Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi warns that being in a bull market doesn't mean investors should ignore present-day realities, saying inflation driven by the Iran war is hitting corporate America at the start of Q3 earnings season.
Delta ($DAL) said its fuel expense rose by nearly $2 billion year over year and guided well below consensus on Q4 earnings. CEO Ed Bastian said, "Fuel prices will recede. How much, how fast, I do not know, but they will." PepsiCo ($PEP) cut its full-year profit outlook, in part because inflation is hitting all areas of its business.
Bank stocks including $JPM, $BAC, $C, $WFC and $GS are all in correction territory as the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield rises, ahead of their earnings reports in the coming week.
According to a Truist analysis by Keith Lerner, the current bull market is the 11th since the 1950s and is on track to become the seventh to complete at least four full years on Oct. 2. Its 119% advance sits near the middle of the pack, versus a historical average of 184%. Of the 10 prior bull markets, six lasted longer than four years.
