China’s LNG Imports Surge to a 22-Month High

Weekly LNG deliveries into mainland China jumped 137% week over week to nearly 2.0 million metric tons in the week ending July 19, the highest level in 22 months.
China’s LNG imports have now more than quadrupled since mid-February, while June imports rose 8.3% year over year to 5.68 million tons , marking the second consecutive monthly increase.
The same week also brought the first U.S.-origin LNG cargo to China since February 2025.
Australia remains China’s largest supplier, accounting for 43% of July imports , ahead of Malaysia, Russia, and Qatar.
China appears to be aggressively rebuilding its LNG inventories.
