$NVO CEO Sees GLP-1 Pills Capturing Up to 50% of Obesity Market by 2030

Novo Nordisk ($NVO) is positioning its commercial pipeline for a potential structural shift in the weight-loss sector, with CEO Mike Doustdar projecting that oral GLP-1 treatments could command up to 50% of the market alongside injectables by 2030, according to Reuters.
Doustdar noted that while rival pharmaceutical pipelines currently average eight injectables for every two oral treatments under development, Novo has five oral candidates in active development. The executive highlighted that oral medications already account for roughly one-third of total U.S. obesity prescriptions, with Novo capturing more than 80% of new oral starts.
Wall Street consensus remains more conservative, projecting oral therapies will comprise between 14% and 40% of the obesity market by 2030, which carries key competitive implications for incumbents like Eli Lilly ($LLY) and digital health distribution partners including Hims & Hers Health ($HIMS).
