$META to Pay $18 Billion Settlement Over Claims It Harmed Teenagers
Meta has agreed to pay $18 billion to settle claims from 48 state attorneys general that Facebook and Instagram harmed teenagers. Meta will introduce major safeguards, including a default two-hour daily limit for users under 18.
There's a catch: Meta will pay only 70% of the settlement unless TikTok and YouTube adopt one-hour daily limits for minors and each pay roughly $5.3 billion. If they agree, Meta will pay the remaining $5.3 billion.
The settlement will be distributed over 10 years.
