U.S. Mint Releases First Circulating $1 Coin Featuring Living President Donald Trump for 250th Anniversary

The United States Mint has officially launched a new gold-colored circulating $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president has appeared on a circulating American coin.
Issued as part of the nation's Semiquincentennial celebrations for its 250th birthday, the coin bypasses traditional norms and long-standing code restricting currency portraits to deceased individuals. Administration officials utilized provisions under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 to authorize the release.
The obverse features a profile of President Trump based on an official White House photograph alongside the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "1776–2026," while the reverse depicts the Presidential Seal modified with a "250" marker on the eagle's shield. The Mint has made the coins available to collectors via rolls and bags, which also include a limited run of 250,000 special "July 4th" privy-marked pieces.
