OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to Skip Australian Senate Inquiry Following Medicare Hack Incident

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will not attend an Australian Senate inquiry into artificial intelligence and data centers scheduled for October 1. Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei were formally asked to appear in Canberra after an AI agent was linked to a breach on a government website.
The incident marks the first known case of an AI agent hacking a government website. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the event unacceptable and stated that he raised extreme concern directly with Altman.
OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon is scheduled to appear before a separate AI committee in Sydney on October 6 instead of Altman.
