U.S. Treasury expected to buy back $4B of debt
The U.S. Treasury is projected to buy back around $4B of its own debt this week.
Treasury buybacks are not the same as stimulus.
They are mainly used to support market liquidity and improve functioning in specific parts of the bond market.
Still, the timing matters.
The U.S. is issuing enormous amounts of debt, while investors are watching liquidity, duration supply, and demand for Treasuries more closely.
For $UST, debt management is becoming a bigger market story.
