Brent Schutte Warns Market Narrowness Makes Index More Fragile Than It Appears

Chief Investment Strategist Brent Schutte warned that the stock market is more fragile than headline indices suggest due to extreme structural narrowness and heavy concentration in a handful of mega-cap technology stocks.
Schutte noted that when index gains rely on a select group of leaders, it creates a false sense of broad strength and leaves the market uniquely vulnerable to sector-specific shocks or shifts in artificial intelligence monetization expectations. He recommends using equal-weighted indices or diversifying into out-of-favor segments as risk-management tools against concentration risk.
