$AAPL Unveils M6, M5 Pro and M5 Ultra Chips for Local AI Compute

Apple dropped its all-new M6, M5 Pro, and M5 Ultra chips, delivering a major upgrade for local AI compute.
The M6 Mac mini offers up to 4.8x faster LLM prompt processing than the M4, with up to 32GB of unified memory, 170GB/s of bandwidth, and a 12-core GPU featuring Neural Accelerators. The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory and 307GB/s of bandwidth, enabling local execution of quantized 70B-parameter models. The M5 Ultra Mac Studio scales to 512GB of unified memory, 1.2TB/s of bandwidth, and 4.5x the peak AI compute of the M3 Ultra, supporting models with hundreds of billions of parameters.
The new chips are designed to run advanced AI models locally without API limits, rate limits, or recurring subscriptions. The M5 Ultra starts at $5,499, while the 256GB Mac Studio configuration starts at $9,499.
