Google reportedly set to release Gemini 3.8 Flash this week

Google $GOOGL is reportedly preparing to release Gemini 3.8 Flash, internally known as "Skimaki," as soon as Wednesday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The model is expected to focus heavily on coding while remaining smaller, faster and cheaper than Google's flagship Pro models.
In internal head-to-head testing inside Google's Jetski coding tool, engineers reportedly preferred Gemini 3.8 Flash over Anthropic's Opus model.
Google has also scrapped internal Gemini 3.5 Pro candidates that failed to deliver sufficient improvements over Flash. Gemini 4 has reportedly performed well during pretraining evaluations but still needs to complete posttraining.
