Elon Musk Says Space-Based Data Centers Are Looking Increasingly Appealing

Elon Musk has raised the prospect of moving data center infrastructure into space as demand for artificial intelligence computing continues to grow.
“Data centers in space looking pretty appealing right now,” Musk said.
The comment draws attention to the challenges facing terrestrial data center development, including electricity demand, cooling requirements and access to suitable infrastructure.
Orbital data centers remain a technically challenging concept. Operators would need to address launch costs, power generation, heat dissipation, communications and equipment maintenance before such facilities could compete with conventional infrastructure.
