Ford CEO Jim Farley Says AI Will Transform Skilled Trades and White-Collar Roles Differently
Speaking at a Ford event, CEO Jim Farley stated that artificial intelligence's impact on blue-collar work will primarily manifest as a digital "companion" assisting skilled-trades workers rather than replacing them with humanoid robots.
Farley pointed to existing implementations within Ford Pro, where AI guides dealer technicians through unfamiliar repair procedures and computer vision systems inspect physical assembly tolerances like door alignment.
Conversely, Farley warned that screen-based professions—specifically financial spreadsheet modeling, call center operations, and entry-level programming—face a much higher risk of disruption and job reduction in the early stages of AI adoption.
