$DAL CEO Says Higher Airfares Are Here to Stay as Discount Carriers Fade and Demand Holds Firm
Delta Air Lines CEO Edward Bastian explained that rising fuel costs have accelerated industry-wide price adjustments, noting that even when fuel prices moderate, underlying revenue strength and consumer demand will sustain higher fares.
During the airline's third-quarter earnings call, Bastian highlighted that the top 40 percent of U.S. households have accumulated $40 trillion in wealth and continue to prioritize travel.
Meanwhile, the exit of ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has removed a key price check from the market, reducing domestic capacity and leaving budget-conscious travelers with fewer low-cost options as major carriers focus on margins.
