Dropbox ($DBX) Cuts 9% of Workforce in Latest Restructuring

Dropbox plans to eliminate approximately 200 positions, representing 9% of its global workforce, as the cloud-storage company reorganizes its business and redirects investment toward its highest-priority products.
A California WARN filing submitted on October 28 reveals that 57 employees at Dropbox’s San Francisco headquarters will lose their jobs. The cuts are scheduled to take effect on November 18.
The broader layoffs affect engineering, product, design, and general administrative teams. Most affected employees are expected to leave immediately. Dropbox also announced that Chief Technology Officer Ali Dasdan will depart on November 18.
The restructuring comes as Dropbox continues integrating artificial intelligence into its core products, including its Dash AI technology. The company aims to help customers find, organize, and use digital content more efficiently.
Despite the job cuts, Dropbox reported continued customer growth and profitability. In Q2 2026, revenue increased 0.9% year over year to $631.5 million. The company added approximately 96,000 paying users for its third consecutive quarter of growth, bringing its total to 18.19 million. Its non-GAAP operating margin reached 39.7%.
Dropbox expects third-quarter revenue and adjusted operating margin to meet or exceed its previous guidance. The company is scheduled to report Q3 earnings on November 5.
The latest reductions follow a major restructuring in October 2024, when Dropbox eliminated approximately 528 positions, or 20% of its workforce at the time.
According to its SEC filing, the new restructuring is expected to cost between $27 million and $33 million, primarily for severance and employee-related expenses. Eligible departing U.S. employees will receive 16 weeks of pay, plus one additional week for each completed year of service, along with six months of subsidized COBRA coverage and career transition assistance.
Dropbox says the changes will help it focus resources on products with the greatest potential for customer impact and long-term growth.
