Bank of Israel Rejects Netanyahu's Proposal to Use Crypto to Bypass Potential Sanctions
The Bank of Israel has rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestion that cryptocurrency could help the country circumvent potential international financial sanctions, according to the Financial Times.
The central bank warned that digital assets cannot provide a reliable way around sanctions and urged the government to preserve economic relationships with major trading partners.
The dispute comes as several Western countries introduce or consider measures targeting Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Opposition figures have warned that attempting to bypass broader financial restrictions could increase Israel's economic isolation.
Netanyahu has maintained that alternative financial systems deserve consideration, although no cryptocurrency-based sanctions workaround has been implemented.
