Bloomberg Commodity Index Surges Sharply as Commodity Inflation Makes Strong Comeback
Global commodity prices are experiencing a dramatic resurgence, with the Bloomberg Commodity Index climbing 37.3% year-over-year to mark its largest 12-month advance since the 2002 energy crisis.
The index, which tracks 25 exchange-traded futures contracts spanning energy, metals, and agriculture, has posted a year-to-date gain of 32%. The pace of the rally surpasses YoY increases recorded prior to the 2008 Financial Crisis.
Additionally, the Bloomberg Commodity Subindex—incorporating agriculture, livestock, energy, and copper—jumped 44.9% year-over-year, driven heavily by energy market dynamics, supply constraints, and industrial metals demand.
