Open-source AI is catching up fast

Perplexity’s CEO made the point clearly: whatever the US tried to do to stop China from catching up in AI did not prevent them from catching up anyway.
The bigger concern is open source.
DeepSeek already proved the point. Now Z.ai has released GLM-5.2 with MIT open weights, a 1 million token context window, strong Terminal-Bench results, and performance close to top closed models.
The open-source AI race is no longer theoretical.
